To Kill A Mockingbird #1

Journal #1

Chapters 1-3

Perspective of Calpurnia
Today was Scout's first day of school. I can tell she didn't like it that much. It makes me feel kinda bad fer get'n mad at her durin' lunch. I knew she was in a bad mood it jest couldn't take see'n her being rude at others just to let of some steam. I feel that she shoulda been respect'n his way of life even if it's different then hers. That's jest his indigenous ways. So i tld 'er. I told her how i felt; I said " That boy's yo' comp'ny and if he wants to eat up the table cloth you let him, you hear?" I gave 'er a heavy smack agains't the face just make it sink it in. I'm pretty sure she was irked at me fer it though.
Anyway, she were talkin' 'bout 'er day at school an' i gotta admit it didn't sound to good. I ain't like'n her teacher to' much hearin' how she was treatin' her.  i hear she gave her half a dozen pats on the palm today. Scout's just tryin to explain to her 'bout the Cunninghams and there she go disciplin'n her. i understand it might've sound mean but that don't mean she had to hit her. 'had the whole class laughin' at her an' such.  I think if she didn't know what Scout was talkin 'bout she shoulda just waited till after class and let her explain. I'm guess'n the teacher jest has eccentric ways of teaching.
Another thing 'er teacher did that I didn't like was say that she couldn't read or write anym're. It should be a good thin' that she were already literate. I overheard Scout talkin' to Atticus. She was sayin' she didn't want to got to school anymore. i think that that teacher is malevolent to be havin' a kid want to leave school. I think that Scout'll have to persevere though. her father made a compromise with 'er though. i really respect that man.  he 'an convince those kids no problem.
