Significance: Maxine and her siblings have really adjusted to american culture and because of that they are kind of losing touch with their Chinese culture. They recieve these gifts from their aunt but they aren't very appreciative about them. When they recieved them they grimaced.They didn't really like the gifts that much and didn;t do a good job of hiding it.
Personal Connection: I Know the feeling of when you get a gift that you don't like to much but it's from someone important so you have to ac like you like it. I don't show that i don't like it on my face though.
